ABOUT JEREMY

My TLDR

The short version

I am a guy who works as a Principal software engineer in and around Linux, C, C++, Qt, Python, and embedded systems — with a focus on software architecture, debugging, and hardware-adjacent development.

The longer version

There is so much more to a person than their education and profession. This site is dedicated to all of my endless passions and interests. Depending on the day I am a maker, a novelist, an amateur filmmaker, a reader with an oversized queue, a fitness participant and community builder, a father and husband and brother and son (my most important achievements), and a person who cannot leave an interesting idea alone. Most of my projects begin as a question — "could I make this?" — and end as either a finished thing, a folder, or a lesson. I have been programming and making things since long before anyone paid me to do it. Professionally, I build software close to hardware. Outside work, I make videos, write stories, organize workouts, learn unfamiliar tools, and begin an unreasonable number of projects.

This site is where those projects live once they outgrow the "eleven open browser tabs" stage of development.

Languages & learning

Languages

  • English — native
  • French — studying and reconnecting with my family heritage
  • Japanese — formerly intermediate; at my peak I could read roughly 2,000 kanji, but I am now out of practice
  • Italian — studied previously; currently out of practice
  • Norwegian, Russian, Greek, and Brazilian Portuguese — studied to varying degrees; currently out of practice

Other things I study

I tend to learn by making something. Recurring subjects include filmmaking, Unreal Engine, Blender, game development, writing, history, embedded systems, electronics, and the Armenian alphabet.

This is less a finished curriculum and more a record of whatever curiosity has current control of my keyboard.

Values

Curiosity over polish. Finish things when you can. Admit the ones you didn't. Make stuff that makes other people want to make stuff.
